Theatrical Groups
The groups listed below have an emphasis on youth theatre. There are other theatrical groups in Plymouth which occasionally require children or young people for their productions. Barbican Theatre
Castle Street, Plymouth

DJR School of Performing Arts
Meet at St Simon’s Church Hall, St Judes – for children aged 6 to 16 years. Teach dancing, singing, acting and perform 2 shows per year at the Muse Theatre, Lipson Community College.

Kids Entertainment Company (KEC)
Caters for a range of theatre based activities for young people from Primary age and above including weekly drama classes, talent shows, music tuition and dance. The company also organises subsidised coach trips to local theatres and arts venues to see a range of performances; based in St Budeaux.

Plymkids Theatre Company
Founded in 1997, Plymkids offer practical and progressive training preparing children to become confident all rounders in singing, dancing and drama. Currently have 400 members between 6 and 18 years of age.

Plymouth Stage Stars
Plymouth Stage Stars run classes on Saturdays for children aged 5 – 10 and 10 – 14 years at Notre Dame RC School. During the stage school classes pupils learn all the elements that make up the performing arts as well as other valuable techniques and skills. Each class performs one musical per year and has the option of auditioning for our Panto. Students are also regularly involved with festivals, concerts and Theatre Royal productions.

Plymouth Youth Theatre
The Plymouth Youth Theatre meets at Devonport Playhouse, Fore Street, Devonport and is open to young people aged from 4 to 18 years.
Stagecoach Theatre Arts Schools Plymouth and Ivybridge
Stagecoach offers dance, drama and singing classes for 4-16 year olds every weekend throughout the school term. Children are taught in small classes of no more than 15, along with others of their own age group.
We welcome new students of all ages and abilities. Many children join us with no previous experience and all we ask is that they are enthusiastic and keen to learn. Stagecoach Plymouth and Ivybridge students thrive in an environment where creativity is nurtured and technique and style are developed each week. We teach students to act, sing and dance. Classes for our 6-18yr olds are held every Friday and Saturday in Plymouth and every Sunday in Ivybridge, throughout the school term times, with additional classes for the 4-6 yr olds.

Theatre Royal
Royal Parade, Plymouth
Creative Learning is the overarching term for the Theatre Royal’s work with young people both in and outside of formal education, and with the communities of Plymouth and further afield. From writing to lighting, drama to design and singing to sound, they are committed to providing opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to get involved with theatre making. The Theatre’s Creative Learning programme both draws from and feeds into the work on stage giving access to the very best national and international theatre companies and practitioners.
The Young Company runs weekly theatre workshops at TR2 and annual productions in the Drum Theatre for young people aged 5 to 25 and summer workshops and activities for children and young people, while the Young Company Hubs offer weekly theatre workshops in community settings for young people aged 13-19 who may not be able to access their other Young Company activity.
The Theatre also runs projects with specific groups who wouldn’t usually have the opportunity to take part, including young people at risk, refugees and asylum seekers, and people with experiences of homelessness. Titah’s Travelling Theatre
Emma Titah is running a new club for primary school children at the ‘Telluscollege’, at the Swarthmore Centre, Mutley Plain. It is running for March 2012, depending on response! The class will be on Wednesdays from 4.30 – 5.30pm. Register your interest on Emma’s website.
Touchwood Musical Company
Meets at Lipson Community College and Peverell Park Methodist Church Hall. Caters for children and adults and stage two shows per year.

The Wranglers Theatre Company
Their Youth and Children’s groups meet in Efford and have sections for school years 2 to 6; school years 7 and 8; school years 9 and above. They put on performances at The Muse Theatre at Lipson Community College.
