CROWNHILL FORT:  Crownhill Fort Road, Plymouth. Crownhill Fort is the largest and most important of Plymouth’s great Victorian forts built in the 1870’s to defend Plymouth from attack by land as well as sea.  The maze of tunnels and passages that make up the Fort are full of sound effects re-creating the shouts and sounds of a Victorian Fort in action. And there are trails for all ages – which ensure every corner of the Fort is fully explored!  It is only open on selected days.  4 miles from Plymouth City Centre on the A386 Tavistock Road.  Visit the website at www.crownhillfort.co.uk  for further information.

JUMP INDOOR PLAY CENTRE:  Christian Mill Business Centre, Tamerton Foliot Road, Crownhill, PL6 5DS.  Large indoor play centre.  Safe activities for children aged 0 to 12 years.  Open 7 days a week.  Also offer children's parties.  Tel: (01752) 782415.

LUKE'S FRUIT FARM: Tamerton Foliot  As well as offering pick-your-own fruit, the farm has a maize and sunflower maze through August and into September over three and a half acres.  It is aimed at younger children.  Entrance is £2 for adults and free for under 3s.  Tel:  (01752) 785022.

PLYMBRIDGE WOODS:  124 acres of the wooded valley of the River Plym, owned by the National Trust.  There are bathing and picnic places beside the river.  No admission charge.  Access from Estover or Plympton via Plymbridge Lane.

SALTRAM  HOUSE:    Plympton, Plymouth  (National Trust)  A magnificent Georgian mansion, complete with its original furniture and paintings.  Children’s room, including a furnished 18th century dolls' house and clothes for children to dress up.  Mouse and Menagerie Trail suitable for children (aged 5 to 12 years) and accompanying parents.  National Trust property with admission to either the House and Garden or Garden only.  It is set in a lovely landscaped park overlooking the Plym estuary.  There is no admission charge for the park which is open all year round.  House open daily (except Fridays) 12 noon – 4.30 pm end of March to end of September, 11.30 - 3.30 pm in October (last entry 30 minutes before closing - end March to end October).   The house is closed from November to March.  Saltram is situated 4 miles east of the city centre on the west side of Plympton, between the A38 and A379.  Visit the National Trust website at www.nationaltrust.org.uk
