Barbican Theatre:  Castle Street, Barbican.  Tel: (01752)  267131.   The Barbican Theatre is a nationally acclaimed Theatre-in-Education and Drama Teaching Service, funded by Plymouth City Council, The Arts Council of England and South West Arts.  The Barbican Theatre travels around schools in the area seeking to develop the use of drama and theatre skills for learning, therapy and recreation.  They can offer their services to most groups including pre-school playgroups and special needs children.  At their Barbican Theatre base they offer many facilities including  a number of Youth Theatre opportunities, under professional guidance, for children of a wide age range; a venue for professional touring productions of special interest to young people; dance and choreography for 3 years old up; arts training programmes for 16 - 25 year-olds and much more!  Do contact them for further details. 
Christian Resources Project: 14 Lipson  Road,  Plymouth.  Tel:   (01752) 224012.  A registered charity promoting Christian education.  Open to all schools and churches.  Mon to Fri 9 am - 5 pm; Sat 10 am - 4 pm. 
Dartmoor National Park AuthorityParke, Haytor Road, Bovey Tracey, Newton Abbot, TQ13 9JQ.  Tel:   (01626) 832093.  The service aims to help and advise students with their studies, pupils with their projects and teachers, lecturers and group leaders organise visits.  It can provide a range of educational materials relevant to Dartmoor.   With one month's notice, it is possible to organise guided walks as well as site visits, talks and slide shows.  There is plenty of information about the work of the Authority at www.dartmoor-npa.gov.uk
Jacolly Puppet Theatre: Kirkella Road, Yelverton. Tel: (01822) 852346.  A professional touring company which performs for schools, theatres, festivals etc.  (Regret no outdoor shows or private parties.)   Productions vary in size, style and intended age of audience: Dogworthy series for ages 4-8, includes Devon Road Safety Unit commissioned road safety show, a Christmas special and a National Curriculum based teaching show about the seaside. Astra and the Waste Monster for ages 8-11 was commissioned by Devon County Council and teaches energy saving and caring for the Environment. The Real Bugs Show is funded by the BBSRC and is a co-production with the University of Plymouth. It teaches about mini-beasts and is for ages 7-11. Plymouth and Cornwall cyberLibrary: Plymouth Library Services provide Internet and email access in all libraries, free of charge.  With a library card and PIN, anyone 12 years of age and older, providing an Acceptable Use Policy has been signed by either a user or parent / guardian, can enjoy unrestricted access to the Internet for up to one hour per session.
Plymouth Music AccordYoung Musicians' Platform offer:
  • Visits by professional small string orchestras to primary schools to 'inspire' orchestral playing.  Contact Barrie Mills, organiser for peripatetic music teaching.
  • Tickets for concerts selected by the PMA.  They are principally intended for primary school children whose parents would find concerts unaffordable.  However, many secondary pupils have also benefited.  Applications come from music teachers.  Where necessary, the PMA will provide tickets for parents/teachers to accompany children.  Tickets are supplied on a first come first served basis.  Details from the sponsorship secretary.
  • Contracts to perform in a recital series or with a professional orchestra are awarded to one or two musicians after auditions/ interviews held in early January.  Details from the sponsorship secretary.

Plymouth Parent Partnership Resource Centres offer parents, carers, school and agency staff the opportunity to borrow books, leaflets, DVDs, games and videos relating to family issues and parenting topics.  There are books on supporting a child's learning and development, managing behaviour and understanding difficult problems such as dyslexia and Asperger's syndrome.  For further information tel: (01752) 258933
Plymouth Play Association and Resource Centre is an organisation that supports play opportunities in the Plymouth area.  It is an umbrella organisation that offers services to the local community.  It has the biggest selection of re-usable quality scrap for schools, pre-schools, nurseries, art groups, craft clubs or those who just want to have some fun in Plymouth.  With regular deliveries of ripstop, neoprene, card, paper, material, boxes, clear CDs, records, it's great for those interested in arts and crafts.  They also run a citywide toy library which offers a variety of toys and equipment available for families or groups to hire at low prices.  If you want to find out more about the Recycling for Play project or the resources that are available for hire from The PPA then ring on (01752) 256633.  Membership is very reasonably-priced.  Open Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday.
Plymouth Young People's Agenda 21:   PYPA 21 is an independent organisation that is supported by Plymouth City Council.   Its overall purpose is to help the young people of Plymouth to get involved in 'Agenda 21', the international framework for sustainable development that was agreed to by the world's governments at the 'Earth Summit' in Rio de Janeiro.  It is PYPA 21's task to initially create awareness amongst the younger generation of Plymouth of 'Agenda 21' and then to gather information from them about what these concerns might be and it is this principle that forms the 'backbone' of PYPA 21.   During the summer PYPA21 runs the 'Out and About' series which are relaxed and informal, designed to get young people out enjoying the countryside.  Travel is by public transport to show young people what they can do on their own. Road Safety TeamPlymouth City Council through the Transport and Planning Services' Road Safety Team is committed to the reduction of casualties on our road network and to continue its programme of measures to improve the safety of all road users through education, training and publicity. Emphasis is placed on reducing child casualties through a number of measures including Safer Journeys to School, Child Pedestrian Training and Cycle Training.  Free fluorescent stickers and reflective cycle spacers are available from the Road Safety Team.   The following is a list of some of the activities and resources available from the Road Safety Team:

Science and Technology Exploratory Garden, Seymour House, Mount Wise, Devonport, Plymouth.  Tel:  (01752) 605608.  Seymour House offers local children the opportunity to enjoy the magnificent 360 degree view of Plymouth Sound and the Royal William Yard with the first camera obscura south-west of Bristol.   (Seen at its best on a sunny day!)  The beautiful gardens with sea views house an environmentally-friendly classroom which is an energy-efficient, timber-framed building with a turf roof.  It is powered by a wind turbine and solar panels.  The idea is to create a hands-on outdoor learning centre of excellence to inspire and motivate youngsters.  Available to be booked by school groups and other groups of children and young people.   Seymour House is managed by Tamar Education Business Partnership, which promotes and supports a range of mutually-beneficial activities between education, the community and employers.
Stiltskin: is a performance and creative arts company, offering workshops within your community, as well as street performance, site-specific and arts based work.   They combine circus, fooling and physical theatre to inspire the imagination, with vibrant, spectacular characters who have a story to tell.  They offer a wide range of creative and fun workshops within the creative and performing arts for both children and adults, including circus skills, drama, mask making, storytelling, puppets, street theatre, mural painting, lanterns/withy sculptures, environmental arts and much more.  They will also create a workshop around your needs and chosen subject.  For further information contact Iain or Jacqueline on (01752) 294738.
Theatre Royal: Participate programme opens the work on the stages to schools and theatre audiences.  All post show talks and workshops (unless otherwise stated) are free to schools booking to see the shows.  School workshops, often led by members of the cast or Theatre Royal Plymouth practitioners, are available on selected productions and can also enhance enjoyment and understanding of the work on the stage.  Further information from Natasha Buckley Tel: (01752) 230375 or email natasha.buckley@theatreroyal.com
